Cancellation Policy
Last updated: 2026-10-06
This policy explains how to cancel your Vumelo subscription, when the cancellation takes effect, and what happens to your access and your data afterwards.
1. How to cancel
You can cancel at any time: in the app under Account, Plan & billing, by moving to the free Starter plan, or by emailing getinfo@mystudenthouse.co.za and asking us to cancel. Renewal stops straight away.
2. What happens when you cancel
Your access continues to the end of the period you have already paid for. We do not charge you again after that. Your data is kept: anything beyond the free Starter plan’s limits is locked, not wiped.
If the Consumer Protection Act applies to you (for example, you are an individual or a small business) and you cancel an annual plan early, its section 14 applies: you may cancel on 20 business days’ notice, we may keep only a reasonable cancellation penalty, and we refund the rest of what you paid in advance. Your paid access ends when the notice period ends. See our Refund Policy.
3. Renewal
A monthly plan renews every month and keeps billing until you cancel.
An annual plan renews for another 12 months at the annual price unless you cancel before the renewal date. Between 40 and 80 business days before it renews, we email you the renewal date, the price, what happens on renewal and how to cancel (Consumer Protection Act, section 14). If the Act gives you more rights when a fixed term ends, those rights apply.
4. If a renewal payment fails
Your access continues for 7 days after the renewal date. If the payment has still not gone through by then, your paid features pause until it succeeds. Nothing is deleted.
5. Your data when you cancel
We keep your account data while your account is open and delete it when you delete the account; stored files are removed within about 24 hours. A few records are kept longer, as the Privacy Policy sets out: consent records and a record of the deletion itself for 5 years, trimmed payment records for 5 years from the date of each payment, and a scrambled record of each free trial for 24 months. You can export or request deletion of your personal information at any time, before or after cancelling. See our Privacy Policy for how to do that and for the rights you have under POPIA.
We keep each payment record for 5 years from the date of the payment, as tax law requires, even after we delete the rest of your data.
6. Cancelling is not the same as a refund
Cancelling stops future billing; it does not automatically refund what you have already paid. Whether any refund is due depends on the situation. See our Refund Policy.
It also works the other way round. A full refund of the payment for the period you are in also cancels your card subscription. Any other refund, or a chargeback, does not: to stop future charges then, cancel renewal as set out in section 1.
7. Contact us
To cancel or to ask about a cancellation, email getinfo@mystudenthouse.co.za. Post: 3 Raglan Street, Oakdale, Bellville, Western Cape, South Africa.
